A priest in Catholic Diocese of Wau said members of parliament are not representing their constituencies and not fulfilling the responsibilities they committed themselves to when they ran for the post.
Arkangelo Louise Sijin said in his Sunday homily at St. Mary’s Cathedral that MPs were being reserved and not pleading for the citizens’ needs to the government, Voice of Hope reported. He pointed out that the MPs have abandoned the promises they made during the election campaign.
Fr Louise called on the MPs to preach against odd behaviours imposed on the citizens, including rape and looting, they are representing in the assembly because their votes made them reach that position.
He advised the MPs not to protect their own interests by seeking government positions but to defend the rights of those they represent.
Fr Louise did not specify who is behind rape and looting.
The cleric said the MPs should resign if they were unable to discharge their promises to the electors whom they represent.
