The Council of Ministers passed a 6.5 billion Pound fiscal Budget for the year 2013-2014 still under austerity measures despite of the resumption of oil production.

Government spokesman Barnaba Marial Benjamin told reporters Friday in Juba that the budget will be split into two blocks, Bakhita Radio reported.

He said phase one would go from July to December with a budget allocation of 3.5 billion Pounds.

The second block that begins in January may have more money depending on the oil and other revenues.

Dr Marial said the Government was proud of preparing the new budget well ahead of time in order to give the ministry of finance time to strategize its action according to what the cabinet approved.

Since last year, the fiscal budget covers the period from July 1 to June 30. In the past it used to cover the civil year from January to December.
