Morobo County Commissioner on Wednesday warned locals in Wudabi payam against illegal mining of gold in the area.
Moses Simon Soro told the people there that the gold belongs to the state and national governments and nobody should engage in unlawful activities.He stressed that gold mining in the county must stop.
People found mining for gold it will be jailed.
Mr Soro called on the people to embark on agriculture which produces excellent rewards.
The Commissioner was speaking during constituency outreach tour by three MPs representing Morobo County at the National and state assemblies.
Local resident Santos Taban said the gold in Wudabi payam was discovered in 1980s before the second civil war.
