Teachers from eight schools including Yei and Tore payams started discussion on Parents-Teachers Association’s or PTA role on child protection and build knowledge and skills on schools management.
Plan International Program Unit Manager in Yei Angelo Lubang said that the workshop would equip PTA members with knowledge and skills on child protection. He said it was the first time Plan International organized such workshop to bring parents and teachers together.
Mr Lubang added that the training targeted 50 parents and school supervisors from a number of payams.
He said PTAs have been so silent and existed just by names without carrying out their duties.
Yei County Deputy Education Director Philip Taban reiterated that the workshop would build members capacity with discipline procedures despite rude reactions they often get when they discipline pupils.
Mr Taban outlined setbacks facing the department as inadequate funds to organize for PTA workshops.
He thanked Plan International for organizing the workshop.
