The Government is carrying out its own feasibility studies on the alternative pipeline to Lamu Port in Kenya through Ethiopia to Djibouti saying Toyota studies carried last year were a voluntary initiative from the company.
Petroleum Minister Stephen Dhieu Dau responding to a CRN question on the Lamu pipeline project said the government independent feasibility studies were due in July.A source from the state owned Nile Petroleum told CRN that Toyota y carried out feasibility studies and offered the report to the government.
He said Toyota was waiting for the okay from the national government to build the pipeline and Japanese banks were ready to finance the project.
Earlier, the Government announced that works on the pipeline should start in July but now they were pushed to October.
The Government has yet to decide whether to build one or two pipelines connecting the oilfields either with Lamu in Kenya or with Djibouti via Ethiopia or both.
