Eastern Equatoria Government appealed for one million South Sudanese Pounds to rehabilitate the Nsitu-Nadapal road and bridges that are in disrepair.
Roads and Transport state minister Charles Lokonoi issued the appeal to the national Government, development partners, donors, NGOs, the UNMISS and other well-wishers on Friday. The minister fears that Torit will be cut off from the rest of the country in the rainy season due to the bad condition of the road and some bridges.
Mr Lokonoi singled out the area between Kapoeta South County and Kor Galerio or Loriyok as another dangerous spot during the rainy season that also needs urgent repair.
He said if the bad road spots are left unattended to, the bridges break down and cut off citizens and prevent their movements, it could have severe effects.
The minister complained that no additional road works were done on the highway that connects Eastern Equatoria to Kenya from Nadapal to Juba through Jebel Gutun since the World Food Programme did the last repair in 2007.
Mr Lokonoi charged that the national Government abandoned the highway without considering it as the only national link to Kenya in general and to Eastern Equatoria State in particular.
