The national Council of Ministers approved the plan to start the process of switching from analogue to digital broadcasting in South Sudan.

Government spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin told journalists in Juba at the end of Friday’s Cabinet meeting that the project will be financed with a loan from China.

He said analogue systems should be turned off by June 17, 2015.

Dr Marial explained to CRN that South Sudan is planning to fund the migration from analogue to digital broadcasting through the 20-billion US Dollar loan China made available to African countries.

He said China was ready to finance important and vital projects in Africa.

The UN decided in 2006 to have all broadcasting to switch to digital by 2015.
