TEACHING IN MOTHER TONGUE IMPROVES EDUCATION QUALITY

A senior educationist said teaching a child from early age in her mother tongue could improve quality education in the country.

Director of Quality Promotion in Central Equatoria Education Ministry Amos Longa Modi said Bari should be developed as one of the national languages of South Sudan because it gives a distinct identity and origin.

Mr Longa said in the past Bari language was taught in schools and there were textbooks but they were burnt during the civil wars.

He said if children were taught in their mother tongue the quality of education could improve producing more competent people for the country.

Mr Longa was speaking at the opening of a workshop aimed to improve Bari writing system.
