Works at Juba’s new airport terminal came to a standstill because constructors were not paid.

Acting Undersecretary for the National Ministry of Transports Maurice Rehan Deng told Bakhita Radio that the new terminal should be ready by the end of March but the works were suspended due to lack of payment.

He said the payment should be done by the ministry of finance but the austerity measures were making things difficult.

Mr Rehan commented that big projects should not be implemented by the government’s budget.

He refused to set a date for the inauguration of the new terminal.

Mr Rehan said China was giving a loan of 150 million pounds to extend the runway by 700 metres and rehabilitate the old runway.

The works should kick off in July.

Mr Rehan said some teams were already stationed at the airport conducting survey work.
