More than 3,000 HIV AIDS patients received food assistance at Wau Teaching Hospital.

The food distribution is part of a monthly program that aims at providing nutritional food to sustain people infected by HIV AIDS.

The distribution was delayed due to food shortages at the World Food Program.

Some patients at the distribution centre shared with Voice of Hope what it meant to live with the virus and how good food sustained their health.

Dominik Udom Ujaka said the AIDS virus is in his blood and it is his friend now.

He added that what kills is fear and stigma, not HIV.

Anthony Dola said because she looks well most men do not believe she is HIV positive.

Moris Michael, Coordinator of Sabrin, the company that handles the food distribution in Wau Teaching Hospital, explained that there were three categories of beneficiaries to the program including children whose parents died of HIV AIDS.

He said monthly food distribution targeted almost 3,000 but more were expected to register.

During the distribution, the patients were given awareness on how to live longer with the virus if they took proper care of their food diet.
