South Sudan Drugs and Food Control Authority gave Thursday as the deadline for all drug suppliers and distributors to pick forms and register their businesses.

Any drug suppliers who failed to register or pick the application form with the Authority risked closure, Bakhita Radio reported.

South Sudan Drugs and Food Control Authority Secretary General Mawien Atem told the press that drugs importers and distributors had to register in order to operate legally in the country.

Dr Mawien said the deadline for companies to register or collect the forms ended with the month of February.

Ed Rosa, operation Director of drugs distributor Shalina Pharmacy Limited, said his company registered but it was still waiting for a credibility certificate from the CID office.

He lamented that the days for registration were very limited and the amount of paper work huge.

The newly formed Drugs and Food Control Authority wants suppliers to indicate what kind of medicine they sell and from where they imported them.

Out of 54 drug suppliers across the country, only some 20 picked the application forms.
