Eastern Equatoria Governor on Tuesday evening handed over a stolen baby to the mother after spending a month with a woman who snatched the child from Torit Civil Hospital posing as a nurse.

Louis Lobong Lojore said the baby was recovered through the efforts of security operatives from a Kenyan national who attempted to smuggle it through Uganda, Radio Emmanuel reported.

He thanked the security agents for their efforts and the population for their collaboration.

Mr Lobong said the baby’s theft was a new phenomenon in Easter Equatoria.

He urged people to watch out for dangerous characters.

State Commissioner of Police Henry Odu said an Owinykibul chief helped the security recover the baby.

He added that the baby was in miserable condition, fed on pumpkin soup and wrapped in one dirty towel.

Mr Odu identified the suspect as 52-year old Ann Rose, a Kenyan national who employed a babysitter to look after the baby.

The two Kenyans were arrested and brought to Torit on Saturday.

The mother was happy to receive the baby she lost to unknown woman dressed in nurse uniform only five days after an operation delivery.
