Four children died in a bomb blast in Khartoum Jadiid area of Wau town on Saturday morning.
Acting Police Commissioner Albino Utho Mariano explained that a fifth child was seriously injured and was admitted at Wau Teaching Hospital, Voice of Hope reported.He said the children found an unexploded 82-millimetre shell which was buried down during the war and were playing with it.
Mr Utho said one of the children hit the fin of the buried shell with a stone and the device exploded.
The Acting Police Chief advised the community to take precaution and teach children to ensure their safety because there were many unexploded bombs in the area.
Mr Utho called for demining operations in the various areas occupied by the army during the war to prevent further explosions.
