PARLIAMENT GIVES CONSTITUTIONAL REVIEW COMMISSION TWO YEARS

The National Legislative Assembly has unanimously passed the bill that gives two extra years to the National Constitution Review Commission to finish its work on the country’s permanent charter.

The law was passed on its fourth and final reading on Tuesday.

The Ministers of the national Government attended the extraordinary sitting.

Council of States Deputy Speaker Remi Olier Itorong described the enactment of the law as historical.

He said it was the first law to amend South Sudan Transitional Constitution 2011.

Speaker James Wani Igga appreciated the Justice and Constitutional Committee for its remarkable work and the success of passing the law that gives more time to the commission to finish reviewing the nation’s chief document.

He urged the Finance Minister to ensure a timely funding of the commission even if it meant drafting a supplementary budget.

MPs will be go back to their constituencies and return on March 15 for the new session.
