Doctors without Borders or MSF vaccinated 105 thousand refugees in the four camps of Jamam, Yousif Batil, Maban and Doro of Maban County, Upper Nile State, in a prevention exercise against cholera.
Maban MSF Emergency Coordinator Laurence Sailly told CRN in a telephone interview that the medics also vaccinated 27 thousand people from the host communities around the camps, including residents of Bull town. She added that the vaccination targeted everybody above our year of age.
The official said cholera loomed over big camps with issues of water and hygiene, threatening refugees and hosts alike.
Ms Sailly said the cholera vaccination campaign will protect the refugees and the host communities for three years.
She called on the refugees and host communities to keep their environs clean to avoid other diseases.
