The Secretary-General of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement or SPLM said oil prevented South Sudan from focusing on other economic sectors.
Pagan Amum told the attendance at a launch of the SPLM economic policy that the new nation was born literally spoiled by the oil money. He said dependence on oil money indulged South Sudan into a horrible economic situation.
Mr Amum said the oil money buried other sectors of wealth creation in the country.
He added that South Sudanese have completely moved away from subsistent farming to become only consumers.
Mr Amum challenged the habit of preferring employment with Government without productivity.
He said South Sudanese might be lucky to have the oil shutdown because they will begin to reason better.
Mr Amum said the oil shutdown will help South Sudanese to think for alternative sources of income.
