The speaker of the national parliament on Thursday blamed the Juba City Council for not being active in collecting taxes around Juba.

James Wani Igga said the City Council had a mandate to collect more taxes than the state if it planned well its administration, Bakhita Radio reported.

He said many cars are parked recklessly and the city authority does not fine them.

The Speaker added that Juba is the only gifted city where Councillors could collect a lot of taxes but the city administration is not getting anything.

Mr Wani said though Juba had a lot of changes, still the City Council needs to do much more to win the expectation of the citizens.

He added only the leaders see Juba clean but most of the citizens still do not appreciate.

The Speaker made the remarks on Thursday when he was talking to the Juba City Legislative Council Public Accounts Committee on how they should prevent and fight corruption.
