Western Equatoria Education Minister on Thursday held a meeting with the Parents and Teachers Association or PTA to discuss the poor performance of Primary Eight or P8 results especially in Yambio County.
Pia Phillip Michael promised to train all the teachers to teach in every class from P1 to P8 during holidays to avoid the interruption of the curriculum, Anisa Radio reported.He condemned teachers who prefer to teach only lower classes and those working in different schools as part timers.
Mr Pia emphasized that those who failed primary leaving examinations should repeat P8 class and seat again for the exam because no child is supposed to stay at home.
He added that those with financial problems would work in the school garden rather than being chased from school.
PTA representative Abuna Samuel attributed the poor performance to overcrowding in classes and frequent teachers’ training session during classes.
He blamed parents for abandoning their children to the school administrations without following what they were doing and how they were promoted from one class to another.
