Sudanese government militias Monday attacked a group of cattle headers killing one and looting a number of goats at a pond in Farish, in north-west of Heiban County, Nuba Mountains.
An eyewitness confirmed that four armed men in civilian clothes carried out the attack at the water point where the cattle headers had taken their animals to drink.
Reports say the militia men cut off the hand of the man they killed and took it with them as a trophy.
A group of children from the Farish village escaped abduction by a group of strange men.
The children said they went to the forest Sunday to collect wild fruits when they came across the men.
It is not clear if the men who attacked and killed the cattle header on Monday were the same who tried to kidnap the children.
Farish – an agricultural area – is the scene of constant fighting between the Sudanese government militias and civilians who want the land for grazing their cattle.
