A three-day leadership skills training on sexual gender-based violence for women of Central Equatoria State kicked off on Monday in Juba.

CHF International Program Manager Valerie Masumbuko told Bakhita Radio that South Sudan needs to focus on bringing women to the same level of men.

She said the Transitional Constitution of South Sudan upholds the rights of women but most of the women leaders do not understand it.

Ms Masumbuko explained that the workshop aimed at bringing the women leaders together so that they learned their rights in the Constitution.

She said to achieve gender equality both men and women must understand their rights.

South Sudan Women Empowerment Network Director Paleki Obur said the training targets Central Equatoria women leaders because most of the training organized in Juba does not address issues affecting women in the state.

She said women representatives from the Parliament, Payams and Bomas sometimes lack administrative skills to address issues that affect their fellow women.

Ms Obur added that the training target women of Kator and Rejaf Payams.

She said community mobilizers are on the ground meeting both men and women.

The workshop was organized by CHF International in partnership with South Sudan Women Empowerment Network.

The workshop was to strengthen women leadership for increased and effective participation in decision-making processes on sexual gender-based violence.
