The forthcoming census is crucial for the elections and for development.
Toby Lanzer, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in South Sudan, told the press on Friday in Juba that the census will produce a proper population map in South Sudan allowing better planning and measuring development.He said the census was also crucial to prepare the general elections.
Mr Lanzer said the UN agency for population, UNFPA, would be the focal point for the UN agencies working on the census.
The Catholic Radio Network (CRN) is a media project constituted by community-based radio stations broadcasting in Frequency Modulation from Juba, Yei, Torit, Yambio, Rumbek, Tonj, Wau, and Malakal. CRN has also a station in the Nuba Mountains. All the stations share the same vision and mission, and are bound by common editorial and administrative policies. All stations broadcast shared programs in English: news, civic education, and other educational programs. Due to the heterogeneous realities of South Sudan, each station is rooted in its locality and broadcasts locally produced culture-sensitive programs in the languages which are understood by the local people. For its outreach, CRN has a potential audience of about seven million people, considering the influx of returnees to South Sudan after the Sudan Population Census 2008.
