The Governor of Central Equatoria said issues of land grabbing intensified in Juba after the national government announced the relocation of the capital to Ranciel, in Lakes State.

Clement Wani Konga said during the opening of the Equatoria Conference on Thursday morning in Juba that the announcement of the relocation of the capital led to the escalation of land grabbing in Juba, especially in the K√Ö¬°miru area.

He said land grabbing involved firearms and 11 people were killed from grabbers and indigenous people.

Governor Konga added the indigenous people were displaced and some army elements occupied the area.

He said 99 percent of the land grabbers come from one specific community he did not name.

Governor Konga said despite of directives from the President Salva Kiir Mayardit to his Vice President to sort out the issues of K√Ö¬°miru, nothing was done and that the issues were left to the state authorities to deal with it.

He charged that the Equatoria region has been ignored compared to other regions to the country regarding recruitment to the armed forces and scholarships abroad among other things.

Governor Konga decried the exclusion of Equatoria region in the recruitment of police cadets, customs officers and air force pilots in 2012.
