The Governor of Central Equatoria said the disarmament of civilians is not going forward because some senior army officers were rearming their communities.

Governor Clement Wani Konga charged that collected arms were later sold in the black market.

He said some weapons collected from formers militias and rebels in Bahr El Ghazal and Upper Nile regions were secretly transported to Equatoria and are being used in criminal acts.

Governor Konga said the act of rearming the communities was a bad indication that some people were not ready to live in peace and tranquillity.

He made these statements at the Equatoria Conference that opened Thursday morning at the Nyakuron Cultural Centre in Juba.
