The resignation of Pope Benedict on 28 February does not affect the process of appointing a new bishop for Rumbek Diocese.
Rumbek Catholic Diocese Apostolic Administrator Fernando Colombo told Good News Radio on Tuesday that the resignation of the Pope does not change the coming of successor of the late Bishop Caesar Mazzolari. He said the tradition of appointing bishops in the Catholic Church is a routine that has continued for over 2,000 years and will not stop.
Fr Colombo, 78, said despite his old age he will continue to oversee the administration of the diocese until a new bishop comes.
The Apostolic Administrator called on the faithful to be patient although the process will delay.
The Catholic faithful of Rumbek Diocese wait for Rome to appoint a new bishop, but the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI is feared to delay the process.
