Terror gripped Torit in Eastern Equatoria late Thursday evening after a guard shot dead the manager of a local fuel station.

Police sealed off the area following the shooting of Kenyan national Abdi Abdirahman Mohamed, Radio Emmanuel reported.

Torit County Police Crime Officer Adelio Oliha Olilir said a Fire Brigade officer identified as Mariko Loboi who guarded the filling station shot the owner at 8:15 PM.

He added that Mr Loboi was drunk and started shooting near the petrol station.

Mr Mohamed ran to try to stop him and was shot dead.

Mr Oliha said there was no apparent conflict between the two men.

The crime officer commented that HASS filling station manager would not have been killed if he reporter the shooting to police instead of attempting to disarm the guard.

HASS supervisor Martin Salah said the scuffle started over the guard’s drinking and cigarette smoking habits.

He said the manager had sent the guard to collect 280 pounds from a client but he did not turn up with the money.

Mr Salah ruled out any conflict by the guard to kill the manager, adding that he was under the influence of alcohol.

The guard fired a total of 25 bullets. Ten were in the body of the deceased.
