Women of Hai Peace area of Yei town spend sleepless nights due to a severe shortage of clean drinking water that exposes residents to water borne diseases.

Youth leader Emmanuel Khemis told Radio Easter that there are about 500 families in the area without a single water point of safe water.

He said women spend sleepless nights in order to get water for their families.

Mr Khemis explained that the Government does not allow boreholes in Hai Peace until the area is demarcated.

He pleaded with NGOs and the Government to help the residents to access clean water.

Alice Ediya said women get up at around one o’clock in the night to fetch water from an over congested and stagnant well for house chores.

She added that drinking water from the NGOs borehole costs one pound for three jarricans.

Bentita Yaya explained that the agony women endure in search of clean drinking water is very great.

She pointed out that some families without money end up drinking water from unsafe sources because the NGO borehole requires money.
