The Cardinal of Nigeria has warned South Sudan against foreign oil thieves and brigands.

John Onaiyekan told CRN that oil money can be good if used well and it can be bad if it is stolen by few people.

He cautioned that the foreign thieves and brigands are working in coalition with national leaders to steal oil money.

Cardinal Onaiyekan also warned that if people of South Sudan do not watch out, the foreign thieves and brigands will influence many rulers of South Sudan to join them in stealing the oil money.

He said the activities of these foreign thieves make the country looks rich because of its oil resources, but its people remain poor.

Cardinal prayed for South Sudan to have a government that exploits the oil money to the maximum for the development of the new country.

He urged South Sudanese to sustain the unity of purpose that existed during the liberation struggle to the independence of the country.

Cardinal OnaiyekanÊ advised South Sudanese to face together the new challenges of good governance, integrity and solidarity for building the new nation.

He called on the ordinary citizens to continue working hard and look at each other as one people.

The Cardinal was talking in Juba on his way to Abuja, Nigeria after presiding over the Eucharistic celebration of the Centenary in Mupoi Parish of Tombura/Yambio Catholic Diocese.
