HIV/AIDS Voluntary Counselling and Testing Centres (VCT) have suddenly closed down in Yei County, Central Equatoria since July.

Chaplain Yuga Emmanuel a clinical officer in Yei Anti-retroviral drugs (ARV) centre told Radio Easter that the VCT centres were run by family health international (FHI) around Yei, Morobo and Lainya.

He said the centres closed because their contract no longer exist leaving the burden to the only two operating VCTs centres of Saint Bakhita and Army Barracks.

Mr. Yuga said closure of all the centres in the County have created a big problem in transport cost, labour, long distance and overcrowding in the only two centres.

He stressed the need for amending some cultures including wife inheritance, group circumcision and tattooing of children and communities encouragement of youth to stay HIV/AIDS negative.

Mr. Yuga said the government would soon introduce compulsory HIV/AIDS testing for any patient going for treatment.

The County AIDS Commission could not be reached for comments.
