UNHCR, the UN agency for refugees, is making preparations to move some 7,000 refugees from Juba to Lainya County on a voluntary basis.

UNHCR Representative in South Sudan Mireille Girard told the press on Friday that the local authorities identified places to settle the refugees.

She said UNHCR contributes with shelters and some means of subsistence together with school, sanitation and water facilities.

The UN refugees agency together with some humanitarian partners are taking refugees to see the site in Lainya before they decide whether to start a new life in Lainya.

Most of the 7,000 refugees living in Juba are from the Sudan.
