Austerity measures are impacting on the budget for national World AIDS Day celebration in Torit.
A committee set to organize the commemoration budgeted for over 76,000 pounds to fund the event on December 1, Radio Emmanuel reported.Eastern Equatoria AIDS Commission Acting Director Unziku Benjamin said the resources team was facing challenges to raise the funds.
However, the state AIDS commission is carrying out several activities geared towards the celebrations of the World AIDS Day, including an ongoing counselling and testing campaign targeting over 4,000 people.
The Commission planned a HIV AIDS awareness campaign through radio talk shows, training of state MPs and media people on facts about HIV AIDS, and use the organized forces in the HIV AIDS campaign.
People living with HIV Aids should share experiences and testimonies during the World AIDS Day in Torit.
Eastern Equatoria state will host the South Sudan National celebrations under the theme “Towards zero new infection and zero discrimination by 2015, Take lead in HIV prevention.”
