The head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS said the mission is ready to support South Sudan to set up a fiber-optics network to improve information technology and reduce prices.
National Telecommunications Minister Madut Biar Yel told the press after meeting Hilde Johnson that they discussed issues of connecting the country with the fiber-optics global network.He said the UNMISS chief assured him that the Mission would support connecting South with the neighbouring countries via fiber-optics cables.
Mr Madut said the fiber-optic connection would half the prices of international communications and improve greatly the services.
Ms Johnson said improving telecommunication in South Sudan was one of the most important tasks for UNMISS.
She said she discussed with Minister Madut ways to improved telecommunications in South Sudan and with foreign countries.
The meeting also discussed the configuration of the +211 code for network operators all over the world to have easy international calls.
