The President of the Republic has agreed to give a Misseriya representative the leadership of the Abyei Legislative Council.
Edward Lino Ð who is a former administrator of Abyei area Ð said President Salva Kiir accepted that the Abyei Council would be made up of Dinka Ngok and Misseriya representatives during the transitional period, Internews reported.He said he was optimistic that there will be no harmful consequences if the Misseriya led the Abyei council.
Some residents of Abyei had expressed reservations over the appointment of a Misseriya speaker saying it may strengthen Misseriya’s claims over the region during the referendum vote in 2013.
Luka Biong Deng and Chol Deng Alaak have been recommended to take up advisory positions at the Joint Oversight Committee, while Deng Arop Kuol, Edward Lino and Kuol Alor Jok Kuol have been nominated for the position of chief administrator.
Sudan is expected to choose an administrator from the nomination list, while the Misseriya will take lead of the Abyei Legislative Council.
