Aweil East County Olympics kicked off on Monday in Mabil Freedom Square.
Army officials from the Greater Bahr el Ghazal and state minister for youth and sports took part in the opening ceremony, Internews reported.Major general Santino Deng Wol said youths should use sports as a unifying activity and stop engaging in harmful activities.
Northern Bahr el Ghazal youth and sports state minister Tong Deng Anei noted that sports face many hindering challenges in the state.
He however pledged assistance.
Sixteen teams are competing in the Aweil East County Olympics competition.
