The Synod on the New Evangelization for the Transmission of the Christian Faith has called fornew evangelizers and more space for the laity.
Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussalla of Tombura-Yambio represented South Sudan and Sudan in the Synod and was part of the East African group. He told CRN that the synodal fathers insisted that the new evangelization needs renewed and holy evangelizers.
He said evangelizers should put Christ at the centre of their lives and follow in steps.
Bishop Hiiboro said the synod fathers realized that the laity need to own their faith and be empowered and involved in the new evangelization.
He added that the bishops should be closer to the people of God for the evangelization players to work together.
The synod fathers said the family was the first place for evangelization.
The Synod on the New Evangelization for the Transmission of the Christian Faith took place at the Vatican from October 7 to 28.
