The third round of polio vaccination for 2012 was lunched at Rumbek Freedom Square on Monday.

State health minister Daniel Gumwell told the crowd that polio was a killer disease, Good News Radio reported.

He urged the entire community to bring their children for vaccination.

Mr Gumwell said polio victims have no chance of treatment and the best medicine is to prevent polio through vaccination.

Health ministry Director General Michael Samuel said vaccinators were targeting 281 thousand children under five years of age in Lakes State.

He added that mobile teams were going from house to house in villages and markets to vaccinate the children.

Mr Samuel appealed to parents and guardians to bring all their children under five for vaccination.

UNICEF official Dau Deng Abuol said polio eradication was among the priorities for the UN children agency.

He urged the public to help kick polio out of South Sudan by bringing their children for the vaccination.
