Farmers in South Sudan will have at their disposal seven million US dollars in commercial banks earmarked for loans to support the agricultural sector and small businesses.
USAID and commercial banks in South Sudan signed a partnership agreement that will avail seven million dollars for lending to the agricultural sector.The loan will leverage the banks’ own resources to complement the existing USAID agricultural projects in Eastern, Western, and Central Equatoria and Jonglei states.
USAID Mission Director William Brands said the agency is working to build the skills of small-scale farmers and businesses.
He said with better access to loans farmers would apply those skills toward improving production, efficiency and market reach.
