The United States of America allocated 53 million US dollars to support the government of South Sudan to host refugees coming from the war-torn border Sudanese states.
US Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees and Migration Anne Richard told the press on Wednesday that 29 million dollars were for programmes already approved and 24 million to assist new arrivals.Ms Richard visited Yida refugee camp in Unity State.
She said the camp was too close to the border, too big and dangerous to meet international standards.
Ms Richard said she urged South Sudan’s authorities to transfer the camp to a safer location for refugees to stay away from danger.
She added that she noticed too much military movements in Yida area although refugee camps should be run by civilians.
The US Ambassador to South Sudan Suzan Page said her government was working with the refugees agency to find a viable alternative site for Yida camp.
Ambassador Page and Assistant Secretary Richard visited Yida Refugee camp on Monday.
They also held a number of meetings with South Sudanese top government officials to address challenges facing refugees.
