Juba’s visually impaired persons commemorated two weeks late the International White Cane Day.

Ben Lou Boggo told Bakhita Radio that event celebrates the importance that the white cane represents to blind people allowing them to move around.

He said the white cane acts as the eyes of the blind.

Mr Lou said it was not appropriate to pull the blind with a stick.

He called on the public, especially drivers, to give maximum respect to the blind when they cross or move along the streets using a white cane.

Mr Lou asked the families to take good care of the white canes of their relatives because they are critical aids.

He said blind people needed to be trained on different techniques to use the cane effectively.
