The Catholic Diocese of Wau organized a meeting on the Pan-African Congress of the Catholic Laity that took place in Cameroon last month under the theme “Being witnesses of Jesus Christ in Africa today: Salt of the earth light of the world.”
Assistant Director of Palica Andrew Garang, who attended the congress, said Cardinal Stanis?aw Ry?ko, President of the Council for the Laity, told participants to campaign continuously for the Catholic Church. He explained that many topics were presented during the conference, among them, the life in Africa today.
Mr Garang said the Pan-African congress discussed bad ways Africa uses to distribute resources among its people.
He pointed out that the congress presented the issue of Africa and globalization and the role of laity in Catholic Church.
Mr Garang pointed out that when young people wish to join the religious life, they often face rejection from their community, which consider them like dead.
He urged the Church to look into these matters.
Mama Rita Gaudenzio, another participant, asked the Church leaders to organize more occasions to spread the topics discussed in the Congress.
The Pan-African Congress of the Catholic Laity was organized by the Pontifical Council for the Laity in Cameroon from September 4 to 9.
