Nuba Mountains rebels reported that they have shelled government military installations inside Kadugli town, South Kordofan, on Monday morning.
SPLM-North spokesperson Arnu Ngattulu Loddi said in an e-mail that the shelling was a self-defence action in response to Sudan Armed Forces’ extensive bombing of rebel controlled areas in South Kordofan.He added that SAF is using Shehab rockets, Antonov planes and Sukhoi jetfighters to hit civilian targets.
Mr Ngattulu said the current military activities were actions of self-defence against the preparations of the Government’s dry season huge offensive.
The SPLM-North said it welcomed the agreements between South Sudan and Sudan and stood ready to cooperate with respect to the demilitarilized buffer zone since it controled more than 40 percent of the borders between the two States.
Heiban SPLM-North chairman Younan Al-Barut said the SPLM-North forces fired over 12 rockets into Kadugli killing three people and injuring more than 21.
According to BBC, Sudanese sources reported that five civilians were killed in Kadugli shelling.
