PROTECTING ILLEGAL FOREIGNERS EQUALS TREASON

Protecting foreigners staying illegally in the country can be considered an act of treason.

A source in Western Bahr el Ghazal Immigration Office told Voice of Hope that a massive number of foreigners have already registered since July in the state, but Ugandans, Congolese, and Central Africans were not turning up.

The official added that hundreds of foreigners from other East African communities collaborated positively in the registration process, but the total number of registered people from those three states reached only 90.

He explained that the authorities called the elders of those three communities to talk to their people to register but some workers were engaged in illegal businesses and were protected by their employees.

Wau County Commissioner John Peter Misikin said the local government has good relations with the foreigners and he was surprised when he was informed that some failed to register.

He added that there might be some misunderstanding between expats and the Immigration Office.

He added that foreigners should register for their own security

Mr Peter noted that the duty of the county is to register resident foreigners for the authorities to know their total number and where they are.

He explained that preventing foreigners from registration amounts to treason.

The commissioner urged community and government to look into the issue to benefit the country.
