Police arrested a number of vendor kids doing petty trade in the streets of Yei.

The arrests followed an order signed by Yei River County Commissioner Juma David Augustine on Friday barring kids from selling goods in the streets instead of going to school.

Police officer Bullen Tabu told Radio Easter Tuesday evening that officers arrested many children selling small items including sweets, biscuits, cigarettes and clothing.

Most of them were pupils in school uniform.

Mr Tabu told traders to stop using pupils to sell goods in the streets or they would face the law.

Joy Pita, a trader engaging children to sell her goods, said she was unaware of the order outlawing the practice.

Given Luate, who was arrested by the police, said he lost his parents and he sells in the streets to survive.
