Insecurity has forced ten international staff of Doctors without Borders (MSF-Belgium) out of Likuangole and Gumuruk Payams in Pibor County of Jonglei State.

MSF South Sudan dean of mission, Stefano Zannini, told CRN Tuesday that the situation was very difficult because two military leaders joined David Yau Yau’s rebellion.

He lamented that the staff had to leave when Pibor County was at the peak of malaria and waterborne diseases from floods.

He said that civilians also had to escape to the bush without food.

Mr Zannini said MSF is trying to reinforce the national staff in Likuangole and Gumuruk to alleviate the suffering of the local people.

He added that international staff will return as soon security allows them to work without threats.

Mr Zannini appealed to all parties involved in the conflict in Pibor County to respect the medical facilities and humanitarian staff working in the area.

MSF-Belgium is the only medical organization working in Pibor County treating an average of 100 patients every day with ten international and 100 national staffs.
