The national higher education minister has called on the members of the National Legislative Assembly and the citizens of South Sudan to vote against the trade and oil deals signed with Sudan.

Peter Adwok Nyaba told Bakhita Radio that he will vote against the deal in the Council of Ministers and encouraged MPs to do the same.

He affirmed that the deal leaves South Sudan vulnerable because Sudan will use oil money to arm militias.

Mr Adwok dubbed the deal premature and not well studied in consultation with national parliament and the Council of Ministers.

Vice President Riak Machar Teny told BBC from New York that the deal was a milestone to resolve disputes with Sudan.

Edward Lino, a member of Abyei Joint Oversight Committee, said the deal was a significant achievement to the people of South Sudan.
