The government of South Sudan has been called to be more effective in the promotion and protection of human rights in a written statement forwarded to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Amnesty International wrote to the 21st session of the UN Human Rights Council asking the body to support the development of robust and effective human rights and justice mechanisms in South Sudan.It also asked Council members and observers to work with South Sudan to establish an independent expert mandate.
The Human Rights Council is an inter-governmental body within the United Nations system made up of 47 States responsible for the promotion and protection of all human rights around the globe.
This body is holding its ordinary meeting in Geneva from September 10 to 28.
