Auxiliary Bishop William Kenney of Birmingham and Chairman of the International Department of the Catholic Bishops Conference of England and Wales is visiting South Sudan to foster closer bonds with Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference (SCBC).

He told CRN that the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales give particular consideration to South Sudan, Sudan, Zimbabwe and DR Congo, where the Church is under enormous pressure, to provide assistance and support.

Bishop Kenney stressed that the Catholic Bishops of England and Wales want to develop a solid partnership with the Catholic Bishops of South Sudan and Sudan, with exchange of information and visits.

He added that they can also help with advocacy work with governments in the United Kingdom and in the European Union.

Bishop Kenney met the Bishops and head of diocese in South Sudan and Sudan, gathered in Juba for their Plenary.

During his stay, he wants to visit various projects supported by CAFOD, the overseas development agency of the Catholic Church of England and Wales, in South Sudan.
