The UN Secretary General called on South Sudan to invest in peace and use its natural resources for the benefit of all.
Hilde Johnson, the representative of Ban Ki-moon in South Sudan, said during Friday’s celebration of International Peace Day that Mr Ban in his message stressed that South Sudan’s natural resources should not be used to finance war, and children should be in schools and not in arms.She stressed that the national budget should finance formation and production, not war shopping lists.
Ms Johnson said sustainable peace means investing in the dividends of peace and creating results that the country wants to see.
She explained that the UN and the Government have developed a peace building policy that outlines areas where development partners can help build peace.
Ms Johnson said the UN and the government will implement the plan in the next couple of years because people want to see changes and peace dividends.
She was speaking at the International World Peace Day celebration in Juba on Friday.
