The head of South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission called on NGOs and civil society organizations to work together and be accountable for the funds they receive from donors for service delivery to the people of South Sudan.
Peter Lam Both said as the civil society groups called for Government accountability they should also be accountable for their dealings.He said NGOs working in South Sudan should have a timeframe and a plan of work before handing it over to locals.
Community Empowerment Progress Organization (CEPO) coordinator Edmund Yakani agreed that civil society organizations needed to be accountable.
He revealed that many organizations do not account for the funds they receive from donors but are quick to criticise the Government over lack of accountability.
The two officials were talking at the launch of a project to strengthen civil society organizations.
