The head of the Land Commission has promised a key controversial community land law after the Land Policy is adopted to regulate local hot land issues in South Sudan.

Robert Lodu Benjamin Lwoki said communities claim that the land belongs to them without knowing that land usage is regulated by the Government in accordance with the Law and the Constitution.

Mr Benjamin was speaking during the closing session of a three-day of the Land Alliance workshop in Juba on Thursday.

He said the Land Alliance will find difficulties in regulating land use if it does not have the law at hand.

Mr Benjamin called on the participants to translate and relay to their people back home what they learned in Juba.

South Sudan Land Alliance leader, Therezine Filbert, said the organization wanted to ensure that land rights were known to all people in South Sudan.

She said the Alliance is going to draft policies, constitution and other legal documents that can help run activities on land issues.

Ms Filbert said the Alliance wants to work hand in hand with the land commissions at all levels to help people understand how to acquire land and to know their rights.

The workshop participants elected a new chairperson, secretary general and treasurer to lead the Land Alliance.

The workshop drew participants from all the ten states.

Norwegian People’s Aid sponsored the event.
