The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations (SRSG) and head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Hilde Johnson held today a meeting with UN national staffÊ in Juba.
The meeting highlighted the efforts of the UN Country Team to address various concerns raised by the UN National Staff Federation (UNNF), Bakhita Radio reported.Mrs. Johnson told the meeting that the senior leadership understands and sympathizes with the legitimate concerns raised by the local staff.
She advised the staff to understand limitations that would hinder the full realization of their demands.
Mrs. Johnson thanked the national staff for the frank discussions held.
The Chief promised to have a separate meeting with the field offices later because planned teleconference with the UNMISS field offices was unreliable.
She revealed that her office understands the impact of economic situation of South Sudan on the local staff.
Mr Johnson added that UNMISS is ready to support the national staff during this difficult time and beyond.
The United Nations National Staff Federation (UNNSF) of South Sudan held a protest on Monday 13th August demanding to be paid in US dollars just as foreign nationals.
UNNSF handed a petition to UNMISS leadership stating their disappointment on lack of a decision by UN Headquarters to pay local staff in US dollars.
